While I was doing the travel and research for The Japan Lights, I amassed a great collection of books, souvenirs, postcards, maps, and general tat along the way. Over the next few weeks I’ll share some of them with you through these pages, if I may.
At each lighthouse, I collected a small rock from the base, or sometimes a piece of pottery, driftwood and once, in Kobe, a pine cone. The reddish stone, second from the top, is a sliver of the brick wall in Shiriyazaki, the very first Brunton lighthouse I visited.
Some of the lighthouse are open to the public. Top left are tickets, top right and bottom left are pamphlets for various lighthouses and a Turkish museum (no spoilers). Finally, a flyer for a lighthouse photographic contest I intended to enter and never did.
Then there’s this from Omaezaki in Shizuoka. Pure tat. Love it.
I’ve still got a rad old copper key from Mikomotoshima I need to give you.
