I was starting to feel left out as the only middle-aged white guy in the world without a podcast, but that has finally been dealt with. Along with fellow middle-aged white guy Jason Emde (from the Writers Read Their Early Shit podcast), I am delighted to bring you the Books About Bands podcast.
It does pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. Jason and I, and sometimes a guest, read books about (or sometimes by) bands and solo musicians, discuss the book, discuss the band and, more often than not, spiral off on various tangents which require Jason to do more editing than is strictly fair.
Season 1 episode 1 (we’re doing seasons rather than a rolling thing because, you know, life) is about Michael Azerrad’s updated Nirvana book The Amplified Come As You Are and should be available wherever you get your podcasts from today (July 1st) though it may take some time to roll out on all platforms. We are new at this so bear with us as we work out what is good, what isn’t, what people want, and what they really really don’t. We have six episodes (season 1) in the can, so we’re going to release one a month for the next six months and then see where we are. Feedback is always welcome, but if you’re going to review us/give us a star rating then please just give us 5/5 - anything else counts as a bad review and turns the algorithms against us.
I have embedded the podcast in this post so you can listen straight away. If you like it, please subscribe through your usual podcast app. From episode 2, I won’t release it through Substack again (though I’ll probably mention it). I hope you all enjoy the chat as much as we did.
